Product Introduction

Aluminum Pipe & Tube Technical Specifications
SpecificationDetails
Common Alloy Series & Tempers1xxx Series (e.g., 1060, 1100): Commercially pure aluminum. Excellent corrosion resistance and workability, low strength.
3xxx Series (e.g., 3003): Manganese alloyed. Good strength and formability, widely used for general-purpose tube.
5xxx Series (e.g., 5052, 5086): Magnesium alloyed. Moderate to high strength, excellent marine corrosion resistance and weldability.
6xxx Series (e.g., 6061, 6063): Magnesium-silicon alloyed. Heat-treatable, good strength and excellent anodizing response. Most common for structural and mechanical applications.
Standard TempersO (Annealed): Soft, for severe forming and bending.
H112 (As-Fabricated): Typical for extruded products, no specific strain-hardening.
T6 (Solution Heat-Treated & Artificially Aged): Peak strength condition for 6xxx series pipes.
T5 (Cooled from Extrusion & Artificially Aged): Common for extruded tubes (e.g., 6063-T5).
Product Types & ManufacturingSeamless Pipe/Tube: Extruded or pierced, no weld seam. For high pressure and critical applications.
Welded Pipe/Tube: Formed from sheet/coil and longitudinally welded (MIG, TIG, Laser). Most common for standard sizes.
Extruded Tube/Profile: Pushed through a die, can produce complex cross-sections.
Drawn Tube: Cold drawn for tighter tolerances and smoother surface.
Standard Dimensions (Pipe vs. Tube)Nominal Pipe Size (NPS): 1/8" to 24" and larger. Conforms to ANSI/ASME B36.10 wall thickness schedules.
Tube Sizes: Specified by exact Outside Diameter (OD) and wall thickness (WT). Common OD: 6 mm (0.25") to 300 mm (12").
Wall Thickness: For Pipe: Schedules 5, 10, 40, 80, etc. For Tube: Typically specified in mm or inches (e.g., 1.0mm, 0.125").
Standard LengthsStandard Straight Lengths: 6 m (20 ft) for pipe; 1.8 m (6 ft), 3.05 m (10 ft), 6.1 m (20 ft) for tube.
Random Mill Lengths: Typically 3 m to 6 m (10 ft to 20 ft).
Cut-to-Length: Custom lengths as specified.
Coils: Available for small diameter annealed tubing.
Key Mechanical Properties (Typical)6061-T6: Tensile: 310 MPa (45 ksi), Yield: 276 MPa (40 ksi), Elongation: 10%.
6063-T5: Tensile: 185 MPa (27 ksi), Yield: 145 MPa (21 ksi), Elongation: 12%.
3003-H14: Tensile: 150 MPa (22 ksi), Yield: 130 MPa (19 ksi).
5052-O: Tensile: 195 MPa (28 ksi), Yield: 90 MPa (13 ksi), Elongation: 25%.
Standard SpecificationsPipe: ASTM B241/B241M (Aluminum Alloy Seamless Pipe and Seamless Extruded Tube)
Tube: ASTM B210 (Aluminum Alloy Drawn Seamless Tubes), ASTM B483 (General Service Drawn Tubes)
Structural Tube: ASTM B429 (Aluminum-Alloy Extruded Structural Pipe and Tube)
Welded Tube: ASTM B313 (Aluminum Alloy Welded Round Tube)
Surface FinishMill Finish (MF): As-extruded or as-welded, may have visible die lines or weld bead.
Anodized (Clear or Color): Electrochemical coating for corrosion/wear resistance and appearance.
Polished/Buffered: Mechanical polish for a reflective surface.
Painted/Powder Coated: Applied organic coating for color and protection.
Fabrication & PerformanceWeldability: Excellent for most alloys using TIG or MIG methods; 5xxx series is preferred for welded structures.
Formability/Bendability: Good, especially in annealed (O) tempers.
Corrosion Resistance: Excellent; 5xxx and 6xxx series offer good performance in various environments.
Conductivity: Good thermal and electrical conductivity, especially 1xxx and 6xxx series.
Primary ApplicationsStructural & Architecture: Handrails, frames, trusses, space frames, curtain walls.
Fluid Transport: Hydraulic lines, pneumatic systems, irrigation pipes, chemical processing.
Heat Transfer: Heat exchanger tubes, condenser tubes, solar thermal systems.
Marine & Offshore: Boat railings, masts, piping systems, offshore platforms.
General Engineering: Machinery parts, weldments, protective cages, furniture.
